Day One

Not so bright eyed or bushy tailed we departed at 4am. A very uneventful 14 hours later we were in the Rockies and breathless from the beauty. The mountains are something totally unique, they have an unmatched power and grace. They’re literally the wrinkles of the earth; scars on its solid skin. And looking at them, I appreciate our smallness. How totally out of control we are. Human technology has come so far, but we still can’t stop the rain, the mountain mist, we still can’t iron out the mountains to make life more convenient. Snow will fall, rain will fall, fog will obscure, the earth will freeze over and then cook itself, and we can’t do anything about it.

Jasmine, Elizabeth, and I are in a quaint B&B in the tiniest of tiny mountain towns. There aren’t even any paved roads. Mountains loom large, practically in the back yard, a light drizzle is falling. And after a walk exploring the town, we’re cozied up with soup and tea. I couldn’t be happier.
Exploring the rocks.
